Hopewell, NJ. April 15, 2005 - The Certified Treasury Manager (CTP) designation of the Association for Financial Professionals rests on a greatly expanded body of knowledge as of 2005. The Essentials of Treasury Management has added several new areas and five chapters, including working capital, pension fund management, insurance, corporate governance, and capital structure. The test itself has been enlarged to 170 questions. No topic has been completely eliminated in the new Essentials. However, the emphasis on cash flow management has been reduced, so that the new body of knowledge demands a broader, generalist perspective.

Preparing for Treasury Management Certification

To be successful, candidates will need a comprehensive study program that includes organized study and self-testing. Preparing for Treasury Management Certification: A Self-Study Guide, a new book by Kenneth L. Parkinson is designed to do just that. It discusses all the material in the body of knowledge and also has:
  • Diagnostic checklists and tests
  • A customizable study plan
  • Study tips and test-taking aids
  • More than 400 original practice questions.
At national seminars and at New York University, Ken Parkinson has trained hundreds of cash managers. He helped develop the first certification test and was coeditor of the first three editions of Essentials of Cash Management. He has been leading certification courses for a decade.

In this book, Ken explains complex theories and formulas and points out important items throughout the study guide. In addition, he addresses practical issues such as assessing one's strengths and weaknesses and focusing on specific formulas and topics.

Periodic tests chart the reader's progress unit by unit, and there is a final practice exam with the same number and mix of questions as the real exam. All in all, the book has more than 400 test questions. Each test comes with answers and discussions, where appropriate. This book is an independent work and is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the AFP.

Preparing for Treasury Management Certification: A Self-Study Guide (308 pages, $89.95, plus $5.00 s&h; ISBN 0-9633680-9-5) is published by Treasury Information Services and can be ordered at 1-888-TIS-BOOK or at www.tisbooks.com.
